KTH Professor Hedvig Kjellström strengthens Silo AI Sweden with her 25 years of experience in computer vision and robotics

Since we opened an office in Stockholm last September, we’ve had the opportunity to further help our Swedish clients build real impact through AI. One of our key drivers for delivering top-notch AI solutions has been our relentless focus on hiring the best talent, and we’ve made no exception with the Silo AI Sweden team. Hence, we’re excited to welcome Hedvig Kjellström, a Professor in the Division of Robotics, Perception and Learning at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, to join our growing team in Stockholm.

Hedvig is joining Silo AI Sweden as a Lead AI Scientist, with a focus on computer vision-driven solutions. Hedvig holds a PhD in Computer Science from KTH, with the topic of her doctoral thesis focusing on 3D reconstruction of human motion in video. In addition to her professorship, she is an affiliated researcher in the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, Germany.

During her academic career, Hedvig has visited MIT, Massachusetts, USA as a Visiting Scientist, in 2006, Brown University, Rhode Island, USA as a Visiting Researcher in 2000–2001 and worked as a Visiting Researcher at Xerox PARC, California, USA in 1999. Between 2002 and 2006 Hedvig worked as a scientist at the Swedish Defence Research Agency, where she focused on building industry applications that leverage technologies such as information fusion and sensor fusion. In 2007, she returned to KTH, pursuing research in activity analysis in video. Nowadays, her research focuses on methods for enabling artificial agents to interpret the behavior of humans and other animals, and also to behave in ways interpretable to humans. These ideas are applied in healthcare, veterinary science, smart society as well as performing arts.

With her 25 years of experience in computer vision research, Hedvig will be able to support our clients to build world-class computer vision solutions that fully integrate with our client’s existing hardware and software environments. With the rapid development of hardware, data accessibility and optimization algorithms in recent years, we are supporting our clients to stay ahead of the AI adoption through our firm ground in academia with 50 PhD-level scientists like Hedvig.

Hedvig has seen her field becoming increasingly industrially relevant during the last years, and is eager to leverage her expertise in real-world AI projects:

“I am thrilled to join this awesome company and help build the team and activity in Stockholm. There is definitely a need in Stockholm and Sweden for a company that puts highly skilled AI scientists to use in helping society and industry to use AI in the best and most effective way. There are also a lot of talented potential “Citizens of Silopolis” here, so it is a great place for the company to expand, I believe!”

“I’m extremely happy to get someone like Hedvig to strengthen our top-notch AI scientist team in Sweden. With her extensive experience and human-centered approach, she is a great fit to both our team and culture as well as the kind of sophisticated AI development work we do. I’m confident that together we will be able to help our clients in Sweden to build leading AI-driven products with a major business impact, and to build a world-class AI team in Stockholm,”, says CEO Peter Sarlin.

Warm welcome onboard, Hedvig Kjellström!
