Philips and Silo AI develop computer vision to improve the accuracy of radiotherapy

  • July 1, 2020

The healthcare technology company Philips and Silo AI, the largest private AI lab in the Nordics, have teamed up to accelerate development of AI solutions. As the first step, the two companies have built a computer vision solution to analyze MRI images in order to automatically detect organs for 3D segmentation, needed for radiotherapy purposes.

The solution combines Silo AI’s computer vision expertise and the healthcare experience that Philips offers. The algorithms could generate information that can be used for novel radiotherapy planning purposes such as organ autocontouring and MR-only radiotherapy, which can streamline workflows, reduce repetitive manual work and support patient-centric care in radiotherapy.

– We wanted to take our existing AI capabilities to the next level by bringing in expertise from Silo AI. It is a pleasure to collaborate with Silo AI, who has extremely valuable capabilities in applying computer vision to the healthcare domain, says Tero Virta, Head of R&D in Radiation Oncology at Philips.

– We’re lucky to be able to work with such a long-standing expert in healthcare technology like Philips. Their technological abilities and knowhow have made the collaboration smooth and easy. With Philips, we have the potential to provide our computer vision capabilities into real-world healthcare solutions that scale globally and can improve the lives of thousands of patients, says Peter Sarlin, CEO at Silo AI.
