Welcome 2022 & highlights of the past year

In line with past years, this year has been a period of accelerated learning, execution and growth. I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of our clients, partners and the entire Silo AI team for the great collaboration in 2021! Despite yet another year impacted by the pandemic, we've been able to progress with business as usual: taking care of each other and our customers. In times of growth, what makes me most proud, and depicts our strength as a team, is to see how we're embracing the core of Silo AI, our values: be good, build bonds, ask why and keep learning.

For us, 2021 was a year of significant steps on our path to building a European flagship AI company with strong growth and international expansion. In line with this, we’ve broadened our client base that now includes significant international clients, such as Allianz, Danske Bank, Envision Energy, Körber, Philips, Rolls-Royce, the United Nations, and many more. In addition to having built several large, long-lasting client relationships, we’ve also grown and matured as a company on many other fronts as well.

  • With 120 new Silopolis members in 2021, our team now consists of more than 220 employees
  • Initiated operations in 3 new markets, including the launch of our Copenhagen office
  • We’ve more than doubled revenue (~€12M in 2021) and profitability, with a positive outlook for 2022

As our clients’ trusted AI partner, we have been able to grow into one of the largest private AI labs in Europe, now doubling our number of employees and revenue for the fourth year in a row. In 2021, we also reached the 200-people milestone, while assuring Silo AI expertise is world-class. Now, more than one hundred Silo AI employees hold a PhD degree in AI-related fields, such as machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing etc. It’s great to have so many AI scientists, AI engineers, software developers, solution architects, designers, and business developers take part in the unique growing Silo AI community.

In 2021, we continued our collaboration with NVIDIA as well as built new partnerships that enable novel ways of utilizing the Silo OS infrastructure to productize AI-driven solutions and products. One highlight is our partnership with Intel to offer modular Silo OS solutions for industrial AI in general and visual quality control in particular (listen to the podcast). In addition, we partnered with the US-based Appen to offer their annotation expertise and the Silo OS infrastructure for faster AI delivery. On our path to more widely serve Swedish clients, we also announced our partnership with AI Sweden to accelerate the use of AI among Swedish companies. At the end of the year, we published the first edition of the Nordic State of AI report - a recurring report that in the future will be published on an annual basis. Among many other findings, the report confirms that the Nordic countries rank globally at the top in readiness for AI. We were happy to collaborate with numerous organizations working with AI that participated in the preparation of the report (download the report).

This year Silo AI became more Nordic and European as a company. In 2020, we opened our office in Stockholm, which grew significantly in 2021. This year, we initiated operations in three new locations in Europe (hope to get to announce these soon), including the opening of a new office in Copenhagen. As our Stockholm office, the Copenhagen office is recruiting and rapidly growing, including also an increasing number of major Danish clients, such as Danske Bank and Envision Energy Denmark. In Finland, we also opened two new offices, Tampere and Jyväskylä, that have proven to be important hubs for AI talent as well as served as a way to deepen our collaboration with clients in the region.

As the year comes to an end, I’d like to thank all our clients, partners, and the entire Silo AI team for the past year. We could not have done this without you and look forward to the collaboration in the future. Since day one, Silo AI has been on a mission to be the European flagship AI company. In line with that, our journey has only just begun – and in 2022 our growth will accelerate. Yet continuing in a remote operation, we need to make sure we continue embracing and being true to our values by taking care of each other and our customers.

All the best for the upcoming new year and Happy Holidays!

- Peter
