Silo.AI and Technology Industries of Finland to join forces in expanding Finland's Artificial Intelligence Accelerator

Silo.AI and Technology Industries of Finland are expanding their collaboration through Finland’s Artificial Intelligence Accelerator (FAIA). The largest private AI lab in the Nordics Silo.AI is adding its artificial intelligence expertise and practical experience of AI technologies into the daily work of the accelerator. The partnership starts with a launch of two industry targeted working groups: one for predictive maintenance and a second for autonomous vehicles and machinery.

According to a study published by the FAIA in late 2019, there are over a thousand companies using artificial intelligence in Finland. In the past three years, the total number has almost tripled, and now 2.4% of all companies with more than five employees use AI.

The rise of AI has been rapid, especially among organizations operating on the consumer side. However, industry has not shown the same amount of interest towards AI: the general unwillingness to invest in evolving technologies has also affected the adoption of AI. This is hoped to be improved as Silo.AI, the company that creates AI solutions as a service, will incorporate its technology expertise and practical experience of building real-world AI applications into the accelerator. 

As the first step of the collaboration, two working groups targeted at the industrial sector are launched. The first group focuses on predictive maintenance and the second on autonomous vehicles and machinery.

– The introduction of Silo.AI brings their machine learning and computer vision expertise as well as practical experience to the FAIA, enabling the accelerator to expand its operations especially towards the industrial sector, says Laura Juvonen, Director of Technology Industries of Finland.

– Advanced AI and machine learning solutions often require a wide range of tools and expertise regarding data, algorithms, infrastructure and integrations. It makes more sense to build solutions through partnerships than trying to do everything yourself. Together with the FAIA, we are able to promote the Finnish AI ecosystem as well as improve the competitiveness of the industrial sector, says Peter Sarlin, CEO of Silo.AI.

In recent years, several projects have been carried out in Finland to accelerate the utilization of AI. Juha Sipilä's (centre party) Government launched a national Artificial Intelligence Program called Tekoälyaika, and the University of Helsinki, Aalto University and VTT established a Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence. Established as part of Finland's Artificial Intelligence Strategy, the Finnish Artificial Intelligence Accelerator has so far helped companies bring AI solutions into production, published artificial intelligence guides, and analyzed and listed the best Finnish AI companies. A significant amount of the 50 companies participated in the accelerator programs has implemented artificial intelligence solutions.
